UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Snow is expected to continue falling in Salem Monday night and Tuesday morning.
The Salem area could see an inch of snow by Tuesday morning, said Lisa Kriederman, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“Expect wintry conditions and cold temperatures throughout the week,” she said.
The Salem area is under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. Tuesday.
“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute,” the National Weather Service advisory stated.
Monday’s low is predicted around 27 degrees, while Tuesday’s low is predicted at 23.
The forecasted highs are in the low to mid 30s this week.

The temperature in Salem dropped below freezing overnight as the city got another light dusting of snow.
As a result, some institutions and government offices are opening late Monday or not at all.
And the National Weather Service is forecasting another front to move through Monday night that could deliver up to 3 inches of snow.
“For the rest of the week, temperatures will remain well below normal. Overnight lows for most lower elevations will remain in the 20s. Afternoon high temperatures will struggle to reach very far beyond the lower 30s, if at all,” according to the weather service.
“With these very cold temperatures, frostbite and hypothermia will occur much faster. If outdoors, remember to dress in layers and cover exposed skin,” the weather service said.
The high temperature in Salem was 35 on Sunday and is forecast to just reaching the freezing mark on Monday. Lows will be in the 20s the next few nights, with Wednesday night forecast to be the coldest at 23.
The city of Salem closed five roads shortly after 7 a.m. Monday due to hazardous weather. More information is available on the city’s road conditions map:
– South Joseph Street between Croisan Scenic Way and dead end.
– South Crestview Drive between Crestview Drive and Sunridge Drive (closed with local and emergency access only)
– South Chandler Drive between Sundridge Drive and Azalea Drive
– Southeast Lyman Avenue between Hillside Lane and Lorian Lane (closed with local and emergency access only)
– Southeast Bluff Avenue between Ratcliff Drive and Heather Lane

Here are announcements as of 11 a.m. Monday about closures and delayed openings:
State offices: Open at 10 a.m. Monday in the Salem area but the announcement doesn’t cover courts or legislative offices.
Mass vaccination sites: The Oregon Health Authority and Marion County’s mass Covid vaccination site at 3455 Aumsville Hwy S.E. in Salem is open Monday but closing at 5 p.m. due to weather.
Republic Services: There will be no trash pick-up Monday. Customers whose regular trash day is Monday can leave extra bags next to their trash cans next week at no additional charge.
Chemeketa Community College: There will be no remote or face-to-face classes or services.
Salem Academy: Closed, childcare canceled
Salem-Keizer School District: All meal sites and district offices closed.
Oregon State University: The Corvallis campus will be closed.
Meals on Wheels: No deliveries happening Monday. Volunteers do not need to report for routes.
Bridgeway Recovery Services: All in-clinic medical and counseling services canceled in Salem and Keizer. Telehealth appointments remain scheduled, and detox is open and accepting patients.
Family Building Blocks: All locations closed.
OCDC Head Start: Marion County sites closed.
Community Action Head Start: All Head Start and Early Head Start sites closed. The Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency main office is also closed.
Cherriots: Routes 26 and 27, which serve west Salem, are back in service as of 11:30 a.m. Route 16 will not serve stops on Brush College, Doaks Ferry, and Ochard Heights. Route 6 will not serve outbound stops on Battle Creek, Reed, and Baxter.
