An inch to two inches of rain have fallen on Salem overnight into Sunday morning and surrounding areas and the National Weather Service is advising small streams will flood.
Forecasters said areas that “will experience flooding” include Salem, Turner, Four Corners, Aumsville, Hayesville, Mount Angel, Sublimity and Scotts Mills.
In an advisory issued at 6:05 a.m., the weather service said that “additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected.”
At about 4 a.m. Sunday, a gauge at McNary Field in Salem had recorded 1.18 inches of rain in the previous 24 hours.
A rising snow level and heavy rain could mean trouble in areas east of Salem burned in the wildfires of 2020.
“Debris flows and landslides could once again pose an issue in the Riverside, Beachie Creek and Lionshead burn areas as a combination of snowmelt and rain destabilize hillsides,” the weather service said.
Rain is forecast to continue through Monday, with Salem forecast to hit 42 today and 40 on Sunday night.
