The Salem Public Library is giving away free copies of next year’s Salem Reads book starting Wednesday.

The 2022 Salem Reads book is “A Tale for the Time Being” by Ruth Ozeki. The giveaway begins at 11 a.m. at the main library at 585 Liberty St. S.E.

The Salem Reads program encourages residents around the community to read a book and discuss it through a variety of events during the month of February.

Each giveaway bag includes a paperback copy of the book, a Salem Reads schedule, as well as two items that reflect the themes of the book – an origami kit and a small Japanese treat. There’s a limit of one giveaway bag per reader.

The book explores the unexpected connection of a writer in Vancouver B.C. and a young woman in Tokyo, whose lives intersect through the force of a tsunami.

Books giveaway bags will be available while supplies last on a special table on Floor 1, near the main entrance at Salem Public Library. Salem Public Library is open for in-person visits from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Masks are required at all times inside the library.
