UPDATE 5 a.m. Monday — Salem-Keizer schools are closed Monday, according to the Salem-Keizer School District, but the district administrative offices will open at 10 a.m. In central Oregon, state officials have announced that all state offices in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties will be closed Monday.
Rain was changing to snow in Salem early Monday morning and the National Weather Service still had the area under a winter storm warning for the day.
There was no word on local schools yet as the Salem-Keizer School District typically announces closures or delays by 5:15 a.m.
“Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected. But, could see up to 6 inches on higher hills, such as the Turner Hills and Eola Hills,” according to the weather service forecast.
The snow could be accompanied by winds of 9 to 14 mph with gusts to 20.
The state Transportation Department also reported several major highways closed as early Monday morning. The closures can be tracked on TripCheck, the state’s online road condition website.
Closures in place as of 4 a.m. Monday:
Interstate 5 – Closed south of Cottage Grove as of 3:15 a.m. Monday.
U.S. Highway 20 – Closed two miles west of the Santiam summit as of 3 a.m. Monday because of an avalanche, in the same area the roadway was closed on Sunday.
Oregon Highway 58 – Closed east of Pleasant Hill across to U.S. 97 as of 3:30 a.m. Monday because of trees down across the highway near Oakridge and a crash.
Oregon Highway 138 – Closed east of Roseburg as of midnight because of falling trees and downed powerlines.
