AGENDA: Marion County commissioners to consider a $1 million public relations contract for environmental work

The Marion County Board of Commissioners meets Wednesday to consider a $1 million with a public relations firm for its Environmental Services Division, waiving business inspection fees for commercial buildings impacted by the 2020 wildfires and a contract for battery transportation and recycling.

AGENDA

The commissioners will consider adding $321,470 to Marion County’s $75,000 contract with a Portland-based consultant for wastewater feasibility studies in the Brooks-Hopmere area, the county’s largest unincorporated community.

The commissioners will also consider waiving fees for building and septic permits for commercial buildings affected by the September 2020 wildfires for three years. The waiver would apply only to fees collected for the county’s Building Inspection Division.

The board will consider a $375,000 contract with Battery Solutions, LLC to transport batteries to its facility and recycle them through Dec. 31, 2026.

Commissioners will consider a $1 million contract with California-based firm JPW Communications to provide public relations for Marion County Public Works’ Environmental Services Division through Nov. 30, 2023. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality requires that the division have a public relations program to inform the public about its work, including for waste reduction, solid waste, parks and storm water, according to the agenda review form.

The board will also consider adding about $274,300 to the county’s $4 million contract with Stayton-based Farline Bridge, Inc. for the construction of the Silverton Road bridge over the Little Pudding River. About $3.8 million will be paid with federal funds and the county will pay for remaining costs.
