The Salem Police Department on Wednesday arrested a Salem daycare operator after a child under six was critically injured in her care in August.

Bobbie Jo Sanders, 44, of Salem, was arrested Wednesday for first-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment after she was indicted by a Polk County grand jury. Sanders owns and operates Bobbie Jo’s Daycare in west Salem, according to a Thursday news release.

Salem police and the Oregon Department of Human Services conducted an investigation after the child was injured, which resulted in Sanders’ arrest.

Sanders was booked into the Polk County Jail and released, said Lt. Treven Upkes, spokesperson for Salem Police.

The department’s Investigations Division asked anyone with information about the case or other unreported incidents involving Sanders or the daycare to contact detective Scotty Nowning at 503-540-2482.

The daycare serves infants, toddlers and preschoolers, according to Childcare Center.
