Law enforcement agencies in Marion County arrested eight people Wednesday as part of a countywide effort to detain people wanted on charges related to domestic violence.

They also unsuccessfully tried to locate 68 offenders with warrants using home or business addresses, said Sgt. Jeremy Landers, a spokesperson for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The operation involved 19 law enforcement officers, two victim advocates and a deputy district attorney, according to a Thursday news release. They included Marion County Community Corrections deputies, the Salem Police Department, the Marion County District Attorney’s Office and Marion County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies.

“This coordinated effort comes as local law enforcement agencies take time to focus on National Domestic Violence Awareness Month during the month of October,” the news release said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found nearly one in five women and one in seven men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

“Each year the lives of thousands of residents in Marion County are impacted by intimate partner violence,” Marion County Undersheriff Jeff Wood said in the news release. “As a community, we each have a role to play to reduce intimate partner violence whether it is through accountability, awareness, education, or evidence-based supervision practices. We appreciate the commitment each of our partner agencies have made to work with us to hold offenders accountable for domestic violence offenses.”

The sheriff’s office encouraged people looking for more information about domestic violence to visit the Center for Hope & Safety’s website.
