Where to celebrate Halloween in Salem

Goblins, ghouls and green monsters delight. There are several events to celebrate spooky season in Salem this weekend.

Events listed below are free unless otherwise noted.

FRIDAY 

Watch the classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. at the Elsinore Theater, 170 High St. S.E. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. Because of Covid it will not be an interactive event with goodie bags. (No throwing toast) https://elsinoretheatre.com/event-details-rocky-horror.html

The haunted corn maze at Fordyce Farm, 7023 Sunnyview Rd N.E., will finish the season operating Oct. 29 and 30 from dusk to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays are family nights, where monsters take a break so young kids can walk the maze. Admission is $14 per person, with discounts for kids on family night. More information is available on their website

SATURDAY 

JFK Ghoulish Halloween Ball at The Yard Food Park, 4106 State St., from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. with dancing and a costume contest. There’s a $10 cover. More info on Facebook

SUNDAY 

Gilbert House Children’s Museum, 116 Marion St N.E., is holding its second “Halloween Re-Engineered” where trick-or-treaters stop at different parts of the museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wear a costume to be entered into a contest. Admission is $5 and tickets can be purchased online.

Willamette Heritage Center, 1313 Mill St S.E., is holding a drive-thru trick or treating event from noon to 4 p.m. with with volunteers passing out candy using 6-foot poles. Entrance will be off 14th Street S.E., just north of Mill Street, and will follow a one-way path through the parking lot. More info is available at the center’s website. 

Black Joy Oregon is hosting a Trunk N’ Treat from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1230 Winter St. N.E. Kids can get free candy and adults can have their headlights or taillights inspected for free. Free fix-it vouchers for the first 20 people. More info on Facebook 

Salem’s Riverfront Carousel has Halloween activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. including coloring pages and a guessing game. A $10 pass includes five carousel rides, a hot dog, popcorn and a goodie bag. Info is available on Facebook. 

Munchkin Masquerade at Salem Center, 401 Center St. N.E., with free goodie bags in the lower south building for children 7 and under from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. More info on Facebook

Coin Jam, 439 Court St. N.E., is holding a Halloween Bash starting at 7 p.m. with a costume contest for best couple, best group and best overall. There will be various arcade games on freeplay. More info on Facebook.
