Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Oct. 6, 2021

Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest Covid numbers. Here’s our report for Wednesday, Oct. 6.  

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 167

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 121

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 81 as of Wednesday morning, a decrease of two from Tuesday. Of those, 17 are in the intensive care unit, and nine are on ventilators. 

Sixty-five of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 463 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 135, a decrease of three from Tuesday. Of those, 29 are in the intensive care unit and 12 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 95 of 101 staffed ICU beds and 643 of 662 non-ICU beds in use. 

New Covid deaths reported: 33

Tuesday’s reported deaths included two Marion County residents. They are: 

A 73-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 7 and died on Oct. 1 at Salem Hospital. He had underlying conditions. 

A 60-year-old man who tested positive on Aug. 13 and died on Oct. 1 at Salem Hospital. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

No Polk County deaths were reported. 

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 6,184 new Covid doses on Oct. 5, including 1,203 first doses; 1,336 second doses and 3,602 third doses.
