Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Sept. 30, 2021

Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest Covid numbers. Here’s our report for Thursday, Sept. 30. 

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 169

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 23

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 85 as of Thursday morning, an increase of 10 from Wednesday. Of those, 27 are in the intensive care unit, and 16 are on ventilators. 

Sixty-six of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 488 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 154, an increase of 20 from Wednesday. Of those, 41 are in the intensive care unit and 20 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 97 of 101 staffed ICU beds and 647 of 659 non-ICU beds in use. 

New Covid deaths reported: 20

Wednesday’s reported deaths included a 66-year-old man from Polk County who tested positive on Aug. 22 and died on Sept. 24 at Salem Hospital. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

No Marion County residents were listed. 

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 6,468 new Covid doses on Sept. 29, including 1,523 first doses, 1,653 second doses and 131 third doses. 

Salem Reporter is now including the number of people getting a third dose of the vaccine as booster shots become more widely available.
