Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Sept. 29, 2021

Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest Covid numbers. Here’s our report for Wednesday, Sept. 29. 

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 217

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 95

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 75 as of Wednesday morning, a decrease of 15 from Tuesday. Of those, 29 are in the intensive care unit, and 17 are on ventilators. 

Fifty-eight of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 453 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 134, a decrease of 15 from Tuesday. Of those, 38 are in the intensive care unit and 20 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 76 of 85 staffed ICU beds and 595 of 659 non-ICU beds in use. 

New Covid deaths reported: 21

Tuesday’s reported deaths included a 58-year-old woman from Polk County who tested positive on Aug. 22 and died on Sept. 24 at Salem Hospital. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed. There were also five Marion County residents. They are: 

A 61-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 22 and died on Sept. 21 at his residence. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

A 63-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 7 and died on Sept. 25 at Salem Hospital. 

An 89-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 7 and died on Sept. 22 at Salem Hospital. 

A 65-year-old man who tested positive on Aug. 31 and died on Sept. 23 at Salem Hospital. 

A 37-year-old man who tested positive on Aug. 31 and died on Sept. 25 at Salem Hospital. All four had underlying conditions. 

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 6,366 new Covid doses on Sept. 28, including 1,586 first doses, 1,562 second doses and 133 third doses.

Salem Reporter is now including the number of people getting a third dose of the vaccine as booster shots become more widely available.
