Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Sept. 23, 2021

Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest Covid numbers. Here’s our report for Thursday, Sept. 23. 

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 166

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 48

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 100 as of Thursday morning, a decrease of one from Wednesday. Of those, 25 are in the intensive care unit, and 12 are on ventilators. 

Eighty-one of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 476 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 157, a decrease of 14 from Wednesday. Of those, 40 are in the intensive care unit and 20 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 83 of 95 staffed ICU beds and 626 of 686 non-ICU beds in use. 

New Covid deaths reported: 12

OHA released demographic information for two Marion County residents whose deaths were reported Wednesday. 

A 35-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 18 and died on Sept. 19 at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital. She had no underlying conditions.

A 43-year-old woman who tested positive on Sept. 17 and died on Sept. 16. Location of death and presence of underlying conditions are being confirmed.

One Polk County death was reported, an 88-year-old man who tested positive on Sept. 7 and died on Sept. 17 at Salem Hospital.  Presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 3,374 new Covid vaccine doses administered on Sept. 22, including 1,612 first doses.
