Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Aug. 31, 2021

With Covid cases and hospitalizations near record numbers in Oregon, Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest numbers. Here’s our report for Tuesday, Aug. 31. 

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 188

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 94

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 90 as of Tuesday morning, a decrease of one from Monday. Of those, 20 are in the intensive care unit, and 13 are on ventilators. Seventy-four of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 481 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 167, an increase of three from Monday. Of those, 40 are in the intensive care unit and 16 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 89 of 98 staffed ICU beds and 672 of 685 non-ICU beds in use

New Covid deaths reported: Forty-three in Oregon. The Oregon Health Authority had not published counties of residents and demographic information for Tuesday’s deaths by 4:30 p.m.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 4,656 new Covid vaccine doses administered on Aug. 30, including at least 2,388 first doses.
