One day before Oregon’s outdoor mask mandate went into place, Green Acres Landscape invited contractors, who donated time and materials to construct a community building for Detroit, to an outdoor social at their nursery on Gaffin Road.
At the Aug. 26 event, contributors had a chance to meet, relax, and be appreciated for their progress on the community building that was once a high school gym.
Coalition founder Nick Harville attended. He mentioned that 98% of the project work to date has been constructed with donated materials and labor.
Frosti and Sam Adams from Newberg drove out to participate. As part of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction), Frosti helped coordinate a shed build on the property.
Bonique Hollinrake, project manager at Green Acres, and Royle Johnson of Royal Media encouraged guests to vote on their preferred design for a Santiam Fire Memorial. It will be placed at the State Fairgrounds.
Commissioners Danielle Bethel and Colm Willis came by to thank the contractors. Jeff Morgan and Hunter Newton from 1430 KYKN came out to do a live remote.
Everyone enjoyed food from various food trucks, including Dos Bigote, served by Ernesto Cruz and Reyli Rodriguez. The band, Roundhouse performed delighting the guests with music from almost every genre.
