Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Aug. 30, 2021

With Covid cases and hospitalizations climbing in Oregon, Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest numbers. Here’s our report for Monday, Aug. 30. 

Monday case and death totals also include numbers reported Saturday and Sunday and are typically higher than other weekdays.

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 528

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 49

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 91 as of Monday morning, a decrease of three from Friday. Of those, 22 are in the intensive care unit, and 14 are on ventilators. Seventy-four of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 463 of 494 licensed beds in use

Total people hospitalized with Covid in Region 2 (Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln counties): 164, a decrease of seven from Friday. Of those, 38 are in the intensive care unit and 18 are on ventilators.

Total Region 2 hospital bed occupancy: 93 of 98 staffed ICU beds and 656 of 689 non-ICU beds in use

New Covid deaths reported: Forty in Oregon, including three Marion County residents. They are:

-A 73-year-old man who tested positive on Aug. 23 and died on Aug. 26 at Salem Hospital. He had underlying conditions.

-A 35-year-old woman who tested positive on Aug. 11 and died on Aug. 27 at Salem Hospital. She had underlying conditions.

-A 59-year-old man who tested positive on July 24 and died on Aug. 28 at Salem Hospital. He had underlying conditions.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 1,269 new Covid vaccine doses administered on Aug. 29, including at least 761 first doses. Fewer vaccinations are typically reported on weekends.
