Data digest: Covid by the numbers for Aug. 27, 2021

With Covid cases and hospitalizations climbing in Oregon, Salem Reporter is keeping you informed of the latest numbers. Here’s our report for Friday, Aug. 27. 

New Covid cases reported in Marion County: 317

New Covid cases reported in Polk County: 104

Total Salem Hospital patients with Covid: 94 as of Friday morning, an increase of two from Thursday. Of those, 18 are in the intensive care unit, and 14 are on ventilators. Eighty of those in the hospital are not vaccinated against Covid.

Total Salem Hospital bed occupancy: 461 of 494 licensed beds in use

The Oregon Health Authority had not updated its daily hospitalization dashboards for Friday by 4:30 p.m. showing Covid hospitalizations and available hospital beds in region 2.

New Covid deaths reported: Twenty in Oregon, including four Marion County residents and one Polk County resident, a 71-year-old man who tested positive for Covid Aug. 9 and died Aug. 24 at Salem Hospital. The Marion County residents who died are:

-A 74-year-old woman who tested positive on Aug. 19 and died on Aug. 25 at Salem Hospital

-A 58-year-old man who tested positive on Aug. 6 and died on Aug. 21 at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center.

-A 75-year-old woman from Marion County who tested positive on Aug. 5 and died on Aug. 25 at Salem Hospital.

-A 57-year-old woman who tested positive on Aug. 3 and died on Aug. 26 at Salem Hospital.

All four had underlying health conditions.

New Covid vaccines in Oregon: 4,782 new Covid vaccine doses administered on Aug. 26, including at least 3,152 first doses
