In 1975, west Salem businesses established the West Salem Business Association with the primary goal of promoting the West Salem business community. The members monitor the neighborhood associations, schools, traffic and development, and the general culture of west Salem.

On July 23, the WSBA held a golf tournament to raise funds for west Salem student scholarships, holiday lights, and summer banners.

Seventeen teams played at Salem Golf Club. There was a cornhole fundraiser that allowed golfers to advance on the hole. If they could hit a marshmallow through one of Les Schwab’s tires, they could win prizes.

Golfers were also able to win a prize if they bought a blue ball and kept it until the end of the tournament.

One of the teams, Tim Klarr, Mark Gehler, Dale Pedersen, and Bruce Womack, gave it their best shot.

West Salem Rotary had a team represented by Dwayne Hilty, Harvey Gail, Brent Holderman, and Garry Faler.

Sponsors waited at golf holes to promote their businesses to the participants. Taylor Lordahl, Vincent Humphries, and Chad Werber represented State Farm agents. Jude McQuade-Higgins served Redhawk Wine.

Brady Mordhorst from Les Schwab acted as the emcee for the after-tournament barbecue. West Salem businesses are welcome to join WSBA. The group has monthly meetings. Visit their website for details at http://wsba-westsalem.com.
