Keizer police arrest man suspected in June 25 shooting

Keizer police arrested a west Salem man Wednesday on attempted murder charges stemming from a June 25 shooting.

On June 25 around 8 p.m., Keizer police responded to a report of shots fired near North River Road and North Cummings Lane, according to a news release.

Officers found an 18-year-old woman had a gunshot wound to her right leg. Her infant was in the car at the time of the shooting but was not injured, police said.

Lt. Trevor Wenning, Keizer police spokesman, said the driver, a 20-year-old man, wasn’t injured.

The woman was taken to Salem Hospital. Police interviewed the driver at the station, and said he identified the shooter as Christian Diaz.

Diaz, 20, was arrested in west Salem around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

He is charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree attempted assault, one count of second-degree assault and unlawful weapon use.

Diaz was taken to the Marion County Jail.
