Salem’s largest high school will have a new leader starting next month.

Ranae Quiring, an assistant principal at McKay High School, will take over as principal July 1, the Salem-Keizer School District announced.

Quiring has worked as a classroom teacher in Arizona and southern Oregon. She came to the district in 2013 and began working as an administrator at McKay in July 2017.

She replaces Rob Schoepper, who has served as McKay’s principal for four years. Schoepper oversaw a significant increase in the school’s graduation rate. Schoepper was hired for a new district administrator role to oversee efforts to help meet students’ academic and emotional needs after a year of disrupted schooling during the pandemic.

“Throughout my career as an educator, I have maintained that our greatest opportunity is in the collaboration and learning we do together to meet the needs of our students,” Quiring said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing this work and advancing how we, as a McKay community, can work together to support all students.”
