Salem-Keizer School Board to consider budget, approve election results

The Salem-Keizer School Board will vote on a $1.5 billion operating budget for the coming school year at a meeting Tuesday and approve the results of the May election where local voters selected four new school board members.

Board members will vote on a new student advisor to the board from among four high school students who applied for the job. Current student advisor Leanette Mabinton is graduating.

Tuesday’s meeting will be the final meeting for the current seven-member board. Current board members Kathy Goss, Sheronne Blasi, Jesse Lippold Peone and Paul Kyllo are leaving, to be replaced by newly elected members Osvaldo Avila, Ashley Carson Cottingham, Karina Guzmán Ortiz and María Hinojos Pressey.

The four new board members will take their seats in July, joining Satya Chandragiri, Danielle Bethell and Marty Heyen, who are halfway through their four-year terms.

To participate: The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15. Only board members and designated school district employees can attend the meeting in person. It will be livestreamed on YouTube at the links below, as well as on CC:Media, channel 21.
