The Salem City Council will meet for a work session Monday night to discuss what lies ahead for the approximately 500 unhoused people living in Wallace Marine and Cascades Gateway parks as the city plans to end camping allowed in those places under an emergency declaration during the pandemic.

AGENDA

Camping in the parks is slated to end June 1.

During the work session members will hear an update from the Mid-Willamette Valley Homeless Alliance and get a preview of what types of shelters can be sited in different zoning areas.

While the city has highlighted two social service agencies that would be willing to operate managed shelters, land and funding remain an issue.

How to participate: People can watch the meeting on YouTube or CC:Media Channel 21. Submit comments on agenda items by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting at [email protected].
