A cyclist remains in critical condition after he was hit by a car in east Salem Sunday evening, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The sheriff’s office said a driver called 911 around 8:17 p.m. Sunday to report hitting a cyclist in the 300 block of Lancaster Drive S.E.

The cyclist, a 25-year-old man, had life-threatening injuries from the crash and was taken to Salem Hospital, the sheriff’s office said. Police didn’t identify the cyclist or driver in a Monday news release.

The driver wasn’t injured in the crash and remained at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators said they believe the cyclist was crossing the road when the driver hit him.

“Neither driver impairment nor speed appears to have been contributing factors to the collision,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Dep. Michael Frieze at [email protected] or to call our non-emergency dispatch at 503-588-5032.
