Two dead in crash with Cherriots bus on Highway 99

Two people were killed in a crash Wednesday night after a car driven by a Salem man struck a Cherriots bus on Highway 99E south of Woodburn.

Oregon State Police said Jordan Chandler, 26, of Salem, was driving southbound on the highway near Boones Ferry Road when his car veered into the northbound lane, colliding with a minibus around 8 p.m.

The Cherriots bus driver, Rachel Bunting, 51, of Salem, was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital, police said. Chandler died in the crash.

Three bus passengers, all Woodburn residents, were transported to Salem Hospital, police said. A passenger in Chandler’s car was transported to Emmanuel Legacy Medical Center in Portland.
