Salem-Keizer’s school board will consider a charter school contract, bond sale and more at an all-virtual meeting Tuesday night.

Though they’ve met online several times to receive district updates, it’s the first all-virtual regular meeting the board has had since the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to most events and public gatherings.

Board members will vote on a renewal of the Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School charter for five years, through July 1, 2025. If the board approves, Superintendent Christy Perry will negotiate a charter contract with the school, which the board will then vote on at a later date.

The board will also vote on issuing $236 million in bonds to complete a five-year school renovation and construction program approved by Salem-Keizer voters in the spring of 2018. These bonds would be the second of two packages issued to pay for renovations which began last spring and will touch nearly every school in the district by 2023.

The board will also vote on a teacher appreciation week proclamation and a contract for newly-hired Assistant Superintendent Iton Udosenata.

District administrators will present updates on district operations as local schools begin their first week of distance learning. Oregon schools have been closed since March 16 due to the pandemic.

Board members will consider, but not yet vote on, a new contract for Superintendent Christy Perry, a lease agreement for the Career and Technical Education Center and an intergovernmental agreement for the Mid-Willamette Homeless Alliance.

Meeting details: 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, all virtual. Can be watched live streaming on YouTube or on CCTV Salem, channel 21. Members of the public can submit comments in advance or sign up to call in during the meeting.

Board members: Marty Heyen, Jesse Lippold, Kathy Goss, Sheronne Blasi, Paul Kyllo, Satya Chandragiri and Danielle Bethell.
