CHECK OUT: Pottery for charity, a mushroom show or a holiday bazaar

This weekend, visitors to the Oregon State Fairgrounds can purchase handmade bowls, while also helping feed the area’s hungry. Each year, the Willamette Art Center hosts the annual Empty Bowls benefit sale to donate to the Marion-Polk Food Share. In the past 12 years this sale has raised over $180,000 to fight hunger in Marion and Polk counties.

Thousands of pottery bowls will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. 2330 17th St. N.E. More info is at the Willamette Art Center website.  

That’s not your only chance to shop. On Saturday, McKay High School is having a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Peruse handmade goods and get some holiday shopping done. 2440 Lancaster Dr. N.E. More info is on Facebook.

Hear Delgani String Quartet perform Mozart’s radiant E-flat major quartet. After intermission, pianist Asya Gulua joins the the quartet for Schumann’s Piano Quintet in Eb Major. Are you interested in mushrooms? Cooking them, identifying them or growing them?

On Sunday, the Willamette Valley Mushroom Society is hosting a free mushroom show from noon to 4 p.m. at Painter’s Hall in the Pringle Creek Community Center. 3911 Village Center Dr. S.E. More info is online.

Hear songs about ignorance, war and greed when Roy Zimmerman comes to the UU Congregation of Salem on Sunday. Zimmerman is bringing his “ReZist” which brings laughter and encouragement to progressive-minded people who need a lot of both. The performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $22 or whatever you can pay.  5090 Center St. N.E.
