Ever thought you’d get the chance to hear Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, speak? Wednesday is your chance when costumed interpreter Joe Wiegand transforms into the rough rider from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in hearing room D of the Oregon State Capitol. Want to learn about efforts to support and maintain Oregon’s bee population? The Salem City Club is hosting Andony Melathopoulos, with Oregon State University’s Department of Horticulture and Rose Kachadoorian, with the Oregon Department of Agriculture, who will talk about their experience.
Programs are held in the Spinning Room at the Willamette Heritage Center. 1313 Mill St. S.E. Doors open at 11:30 am. Program begins at noon. Cost is $10 for non-members and free to Salem City Club members.
Capitol Punishment is a two-day metal music festival that fill the airwaves at The Space Concert Club this weekend. The second installment of the annual event will feature some of the most extreme metal bands in the Pacific Northwest. The cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to life on stage at Salem’s Historic Grand during the month of October. Sweethearts Brad and Janet discover the eerie mansion of trans scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

More than 50 restaurants, wineries, breweries and bakeries will fill the floors of the Salem Convention Center with food and drinks during Marion Polk Food Share Chef’s Night Out. Salem’s second Indigenous Peoples Day is taking place on the Oregon State Capitol steps Monday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be inspirational native speakers, dances, drumming, food and children’s activities. 900 Court St. N.E. The event is free and open to the public. More info is on Facebook.
