Weapon detectors expanding to all Salem-Keizer high schools
Good evening, Salem.
The FBI and local police are investigating after two ballot drop boxes in Portland and Vancouver, Washington, were set on fire Monday morning with "incendiary devices."
“Make no mistake, an attack on a ballot box is an attack on our democracy and completely unacceptable,” Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade said in a statement Monday. “Whatever the motivation behind this incident, there is no justification for any attempt to disenfranchise voters.”
In Salem, police are on alert for Election Day, but so far haven't received reports of any suspicious activity near ballot boxes or other attempted intimidation or tampering efforts. We spoke with local election clerks earlier this month about the ramp-up of threats they're seeing.
