Good evening, Salem.

People over 65 and those with compromised immune systems are eligible for a Covid-19 booster vaccine, the Oregon Health Authority announced.

The booster is intended for people who already received the 2024-25 Covid vaccine, which was released in September, but would benefit from a second dose about six months after receiving the first.

“Immunity from vaccines can wane over time, but getting a second dose can bring that protection back,” said Dr. Paul Cieslak, OHA's medical director for communicable diseases, in a statement. “That’s why we’re encouraging anyone 65 and older or who is moderately to severely immunocompromised to talk to a health care or vaccine provider about getting a second dose, which could keep them out of the hospital or from dying.”

People can contact their neighborhood pharmacy or doctor for information about getting the vaccine, or call 211 if they need help locating a provider. More information about finding vaccines is here.
