Good evening, Salem.

Heads-up – traffic was backed up in downtown Salem just after 5 p.m.

It’s not clear what caused the jam, but people are reporting on social media that traffic lights are out in West Salem.

This summer, as wildfires raged across Oregon, firefighters came from California to help.

Now, Oregon is returning the favor.

Nearly four dozen Salem-area firefighters are on the road to Los Angeles to help as the area battles extreme fires threatening tens of thousands of people and homes.

The crews, which include four firefighters from the Salem Fire Department, are deploying for two weeks. We'll check back with our local fire agencies about what they're up to.

Marion County fire agencies are sending 44 firefighters and 10 engines to the Los Angeles area. They’re on the road and expected to arrive Thursday morning to help.

A state grant is funding the development of Marion County’s Parkdale Park, bringing a place for people to gather in northeast Salem. Work is expected to be finished this summer.

Auditors found several expenses that appeared to violate state policy and potentially state ethics laws and issued warnings to the governor’s office about the use of funds.
