McKay High School students barricaded themselves inside classrooms today during a lockdown caused by police chasing a stolen car nearby.
Students spent about 40 minutes in a lockdown as deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office chased the suspect, who drove into the school parking lot.
The lockdown was a precaution and none of the people involved in the chase went into the school, said Addison Allemann, spokeswoman for the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
It wasn't immediately clear why the lockdown included barricading, which is typically undertaken when there's a threat inside a school building.
The lockdown was lifted at 1:16 p.m., principal Ranae Quiring said in a message send to McKay families.
