Good evening, Salem.

A foot chase into an apartment complex near Keizer late Wednesday morning resulted in Salem police shooting and killing a man.

The Salem Police Department has not identified the man or the two officers involved in the shooting at the Laurel Gate Court Apartments on North River Road. The agency said the man was armed with a handgun but didn’t clarify if he brandished it or why police were chasing him.

The Oregon State Police is investigating the shooting as an outside law enforcement agency.

Less than two hours later, a Cherriots bus driver hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Northeast Union and High streets.

Salem police later announced that the pedestrian died without identifying them.

It was the Salem area’s second fatal crash of 2025.

These are both developing stories and Salem Reporter will continue seeking key details about the deaths.
