Mayor Julie Hoy says she'll focus on livability amid Salem budget crisis
Good evening, Salem.
There’s a stretch of freezing cold nights ahead, and Salem warming shelters are planning to open their doors to offer respite.
Tonight’s forecast shows a low of 35 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Salem First Presbyterian Church plans to open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. according to a city of Salem Facebook post.
The church is at 770 Chemeketa St. N.E., and there will be shuttles available from the ARCHES Day Center at 615 Commercial St. N.E. Cherriots provides free transportation to and from warming shelters.
Most Salem warming shelters open on nights forecasted to reach freezing temperatures of 32 degrees. As of Tuesday evening, the forecast shows a low of 30 degrees Thursday night and a low of 28 degrees on Friday night. Wednesday is expected to reach a low of 35 degrees.
