Good evening, Salem.

Later this evening, at 6 p.m., Salem's new mayor Julie Hoy and three new city councilors, Shane Matthews, Irvin Brown and Paul Tigan, will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Salem City Council chambers.

Hoy, a city councilor and owner of Geppetto's Italian Restaurant, told voters during her mayoral campaign that she would get to the bottom of the city's financial crisis and budget deficit, though she's offered few specifics on how. She's represented Ward 6, east Salem, for the past two years.

We have a more in-depth look below at how she's prepared for the job.

Matthews is a small business owner and a real estate broker with Home Star Brokers who graduated from McKay High School. He'll represent Ward 3, south Salem, replacing Trevor Phillips.

Brown, a U.S. Navy veteran who holds a doctorate in education from the University of Portland is a policy advisor for the Oregon Department of Human Resources. He represents Ward 5, northeast Salem, replacing Jose Gonzalez. Brown is also the chair of Salem's Citizen Budget Committee and co-chair of the Marion County Sheriff's Advisory board.

Tigan moved to Salem in 2015 and is representing Ward 1, downtown and north central Salem. He is now a vice president at Metropolitan Group, a strategic communications firm in Portland and works remotely. He replaces Virginia Stapleton.
