Good evening, Salem.

Longtime Salem chef and business owner Gregg Peterson will take home Salem's highest civic honor this year.

Peterson will be named Salem First Citizen at the 74th First Citizen awards on March 8, the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce announced Monday.

He is chef at the Kroc Center and the executive director of the Be-BLAC Foundation.

"Gregg is directly supporting Black-owned businesses and the leaders of those businesses with the vision and mission of a community where Black voices have a direct impact on the city they live and work in," the Chamber's statement said. "For the last few years, the organization has worked with community members on business development, youth education, and networking to empower them to be bold, creative, engaged, and most importantly, to be true to themselves."

The Chamber will announce other annual award recipients this week. More information about the First Citizen Banquet is here.
