School immigration policy, park cougar and Salem's trash
Good evening, Salem.
Salem residents are sharing their love of cats, spicy pickles, books and rapper Kendrick Lamar using the Salem Public Library’s Gallery of Gratitude, an annual display asking people to write what they’re grateful for on a sticky note.
Library patrons filled several boards with dozens of notes. Though the display has been taken down for the year, the gratitude can still be viewed in the library’s online gallery.
The city’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting event kicks off tonight at 5:30 p.m., and will include carriage rides, a scavenger hunt and a chance to meet Santa. The park is at 200 Water St. N.E.
Starting at 5:45 p.m., there will be free cookies and cocoa donated by Roth’s IGA.
Mayor Chris Hoy will light up the main holiday tree at 6 p.m. But if you're reading this later, don't worry - the event ends at 8 p.m., and the lights will stay up through Dec. 31.
