The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly averted a federal government shutdown Friday after agreeing on a spending bill to continue funding the government.

Lawmakers voted Friday evening on the package, which passed the House with bipartisan support.

In news closer-to-home, state regulators approved a rate increase for Portland General Electric, cutting the utility giant's ask in half. The result is that home and apartment residents will pay about 5% more for power starting in January after years of double-digit increases.
