Good evening, Salem.

If you recently booked an Avelo flight to Las Vegas from Salem, you were likely surprised to get word from the airline that you wouldn't be going to Sin City after all.

At least not between Jan. 7 and April 27.

Avelo announced Thursday that it would temporarily suspend its Vegas flights and shift to a seasonal route. The airline cited low demand as the reason for the change.

An Avelo spokeswoman said Thursday the flights would resume in late April or early May and that customers with tickets would be getting refunds. The news blindsided Salem business and air travel advocates who have worked to return commercial air service to the capital. We have more in our story below.
