Gov. Tina Kotek response to anti-DEI order, new ballet to premiere Sunday
Good evening, Salem.
Oregon will not comply with a federal order requiring schools to confirm they are eliminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs, Gov. Tina Kotek announced earlier today.
Salem-Keizer School District Superintendent Andrea Castañeda welcomed the announcement after urging the governor and the Oregon Department of Education to join other states in not complying with the order.
“I’m grateful to the governor’s office and the Department of Education and beyond that proud to be an Oregonian in a time of tremendous uncertainty,” Castañeda said in an interview.
She said the federal Department of Education should follow federal law if wanting to change policy instead of holding funding for children “hostage.”
