Memorial Day events, what's next on the city's tax levy
Good morning, Salem.
Marion County election officials have about 18,000 ballots remaining to count as of Wednesday evening, according to Clerk Bill Burgess.
That includes about 10,000 votes from people who live in Salem city limits. And while it's unlikely to flip the result of the city's tax levy measure, the numbers will shift when Marion County releases its next tally near the end of the day today.
So what's next?
The city of Salem was clear in its plans: how levy money would be spent, the services the community can expect, and the future of the budget.
At Salem Reporter, our job is to hold them accountable to that. We won't be the only ones - levy funds get an outside audit - but we'll be keeping a close eye on the budget process, hiring and operations at the library and how your money is being spent.
