Good morning, Salem.

Eastbound traffic on Southeast McGilchrist Street will be closed through the end of the year between Southeast 22nd and 25th streets, the city of Salem announced Tuesday.

Local access will be available for businesses and homes in the area, the city said. Drivers should watch for traffic signs and follow crew instructions.

The closure is part of a long-running project to remake the street that is a thoroughfare near the city airport and its brewery district, expanding the street, adding sidewalks and improving drainage to avoid flooding from Pringle Creek.

The project is intended to make business development in the area more viable. It’s paid through a mix of federal grants, urban renewal money and the city infrastructure package voters approved in 2022.Drivers can get current information about city road closures on the city website.
