Qingming celebration returns, new help for people after prison
Good morning, Salem.
The city's Qingming festival returns this weekend. It's a Chinese celebration honoring ancestors by caring for tombs and making offerings.
On Saturday, April 5, Salem will celebrate from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
Salem had a regular Qingming celebration a century ago, when the city has a larger Chinese population, including several prominent community members. The city resurrected the celebration in 2018 after the discovery of a funerary table in the cemetery.
