Good morning, Salem.

It's been a booming year for new apartments in town.

A whopping 741 new apartments have been permitted since last July, city data shows. That total doesn't include June - city officials should release updated data in the next week or so.

It's the highest total since at least 2020-21, when Salem permitted 759 apartments. That comes as politicians at every level are talking about the need to build more housing to get rent prices down.

Below, we report on one such development - a new planned apartment building from the crew that opened Koz on State downtown in 2021.
