Good morning, Salem.

It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Salem is observing the civil rights leader's birthday with a peace walk in the Grant neighborhood.

The event is organized by the Salem-Keizer NAACP and other community groups, and is intended to promote nonviolence and build connections. It's part of a larger violence reduction initiative city and community leaders have undertaken over the past year.

Learn more in our article below, or join the walk at  1 p.m. starting at Seed of Faith Ministries, 1230 Winter St. N.E.

Because of the holiday, local and state government offices are closed.
