Starting Feb. 3, Salem households will be able to pay their utility bills using a new online system with more payment options.
The upgrade replaces a 20-year-old system, the city said in a Jan. 14 statement. Salem uses the software to bill for water, stormwater, wastewater, streetlight and operations fees.
Current customers, including people currently using autopay, will need to register for the new autopay system when it launches on Feb. 3. No action is required before that date, the city said.
The new software will allow new payment options including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo and PayPal. It also makes billing more efficient for city staff and uses less paper, the city said.
Enrollment will require using your most recent utility bill.
For assistance and questions, contact utility staff at [email protected] or 503-588-6099, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The office will be closed between Jan. 30 and Feb. 3 for the transfer, and electronic and phone payments will be temporarily unavailable. Customers can pay in-person during that time at the customer service center at 555 Liberty St. S.E., the drive-thru box by the Salem Public Library, the operations building at 1457 23rd St. S.E. and the West Salem Public Library.
