Good morning, Salem.

Weapon detectors are rolling out starting next week at several Salem high schools.

Detectors will be added to North Salem, McKay and the Roberts campus on State Street, Salem-Keizer School District spokesman Aaron Harada said Wednesday.

Sprague and McNary will follow later this month, while West Salem is waiting on some parts to be ordered, Harada said.

District leaders in October announced plans to expand detectors following a pilot at South Salem High School. It's part of a larger effort to control entrances and exits in school buildings by limiting the number of doors in use during the school day.

We'll get more details on the rollout in the coming days. If you're a student, parent or educator at one of the schools, we'd love to hear your thoughts and questions. Email Rachel Alexander at [email protected].
