A trio of special movie screenings this weekend will help raise money for creative professionals affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
Salem Cinema is hosting benefit screenings of "La La Land" nightly at 7:30 p.m. from Friday, Jan. 17, to Sunday, Jan. 19. Tickets are $13 and benefit the Entertainment Community Fund.
Loretta Miles, Salem Cinema owner, said she wanted to support a group meeting the immediate needs of the writers, editors, sound designers, camera operators, makeup artists and others who produce film and television that entertain so many people.
"The current wildfires have spared none in their paths and just in my circle of film worker friends alone, I've been made aware of well over 250 individuals and their families who have lost everything," Miles said in statement. The Entertainment Community Fund is "actively, boots on the ground, meeting immediate emergency needs of these behind-the-scenes workers who are now not only left without a home but also without income as so many projects have come to a screeching halt in the smoldering embers."
