Good morning, Salem.

After a year offline, city traffic cameras are back.

The city of Salem announced Monday that its network of 23 cameras will again show live footage of local roads at https://salemor.gov/traffic-cams.

The cameras were taken offline last year because they were overloading the fiber optic network the city also uses to run traffic signals. That left Salem residents without a clear picture of road conditions during an ice storm last January.

"Our traffic engineering and IT teams have been hard at work making the network stronger and more reliable. Now, we have a solid system that will help Salem better in the future and especially if we get bad weather this winter," the city said in a Facebook post.
