Our local firefighters helped save a home in southern California on Friday, the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office said.
Four Salem firefighters and an engine are among hundreds of Oregon firefighters who have traveled to aid California as crews battle multiple large wildfires.
"During their first 24-hour shift on Friday, one of the Marion County strike teams helped save a home," the agency said on Facebook. "A California OES Type 6 engine was flagged down by police about a possible attic fire. They shared the info over the radio, and Salem Engine 15—being closest—jumped into action. Together, they pulled a hose line and tackled the fire, which was exposed by opening an interior wall. Thanks to their swift response, the fire was extinguished quickly and a home was saved."
