Good morning, Salem.
Voters in May will make major decisions about Salem city services, community college - and local schools.
Four of the seven seats on the Salem-Keizer School Board are up for election, and with three months to go, candidates have started to file.
Two of the four current board members are seeking another term. Lisa Harnisch is running to represent West Salem, Zone 1, after being appointed to the board last year.
Karina Guzmán Ortiz will seek reelection to the east Salem seat, Zone 5, she told Salem Reporter. Challenging her is Jason Kroker, an Air Force veteran and equipment technician for the state.
Two current school board members, Ashley Carson Cottingham in Zone 3, and Maria Hinojos Pressey in Zone 7, are not seeking reelection. Angelo Arredondo Baca, an Oregon State University student and office assistant, is seeking the Zone 3 seat.
