Stories of addiction recovery, free tax help in Salem

But stories on those issues often focus on policy, or say little about the actual process of recovery for people who go through it.
Reporter Madeline Moore set out over the past few months to offer a deeper look at some Salem residents in recovery. Her story below is the first in a three-part series chronicling addiction recovery journeys, including setbacks, support and the local services people relied on to get and stay sober.
